Institution : SNDT Women’s University, Department of Educational Technology, Juhu School Awareness Programmes on Plastic Waste Management
(Project supported by Organization of Plastics Processors of India)
Around 4500 students and their teachers were sensitized on the need of proper waste disposal, learnt about plastics and its role in daily living and the importance of proper waste segregation and management. The audio-visual format and interactive methodology used was appreciated by all the schools. The pre and post test administered on the students revealed that by and large, students were aware about certain aspects of plastics, however, the audio visual format and the interactive methodology used was instrumental in increasing their knowledge about plastics on the one hand and also conveyed the message of the importance of its proper management in an effective manner. Schools having a ‘Nature Club’ were very much interested in having more interactions with experts on the issue and the teachers handling the subject of ‘Environmental Studies’ were happy that the students were given a lesson on an important subject in a different but interesting way.
